Which application forms to fill in once I have found an internship in a company
The application form "Demande d'Agrément de Stage" [application for an internship] has to be completed including the student’s and the company’s address, and telephone number, the length of the internship, its content and the name of the supervising professor.
Please be aware that each Master programme has its own documents.
Please send the document, duly completed, to Isabelle Sutherland, Office number 301.1, 3rd floor, Internef building, post box 91.
We will have the internship validated by the Master Scientific Committee. As soon as the request has been accepted, the forms "Convention de Stage" [Internship contract] and the “Déclaration de Confidentialité” [Declaration of Confidentiality] (if the company wishes), will have to be completed and signed by the company, the professor and the student and returned to Isabelle Sutherland who will have it signed by the Director of the Scientific Committee.
I have chosen to write a Master thesis, what kind of documents do I have to submit?
The form "Demande d’Agrément de Mémoire Académique" [application to write a Master thesis] (same document for all Masters) has to be completed and sent to Isabelle Sutherland, Office number 301.1, 3rd floor, Internef building, post box 91.

What happens if I fail the viva?
The thesis can be presented again but only until the end of week 35. For the MScIS it is possible until the end of week 12.
Do I have to ask for study leave during the semester in which I write my report?
No, it’s not necessary. Moreover, the full study fee will still have to be paid.
In which room will my viva take place?
It is up to the student to find and reserve a classroom (Gestion des salles, tel. no. 021 692 2609 or 2610, can help) and inform the people concerned. He/she must also take care of the logistics.
In what form do I have to submit the thesis report?
3 copies (bound) for the internship report or 2 copies (bound) for the Master thesis report have to be submitted to the professor. After the viva, the professor will sign the report and send one copy to administration. The copy will be kept in the student’s file.
Is an interne paid for his or her work?
In principle yes but it depends on the company. In practice, the lowest wage rate is around CHF 2’000.--/month. NGO organisations do not pay their trainees.
How to employ foreign students
As the internship is part of the Master programme, foreign students can easily receive a work permit in order to complete their internship. The person in charge of internships and reports can write a recommendation.
Can you suggest candidates to me?
Yes, new HEC Career Center services propose student's profile selection.
Is the thesis report public?
No. The report will not be published or distributed.
Do I have to register for the thesis examination?
You must register for the Master thesis at the same time as for the official examinations: http://www.hec.unil.ch/hec/masters/examens.
