Welcome to the University of Lausanne and thank you for your interest in the Department of Organizational Behavior (OB) at the Faculty of Business and Economics. Our department consists of six Professors and about 25 assistants and adjunct faculty. We are a research-active group that studies the behaviors of individuals and groups in organizations from various perspectives. Examples include leadership, workforce diversity, decision making and behavioural economics. In 2009 and 2010, we published a total 21 refereed journal articles, including articles in Science, American Economic Review, the Journal of Applied Psychology, and Leadership Quarterly. We teach in all programs of the Faculty of Business and Economics from the Bachelor’s program to the Ph.D. program and the EMBA program.
As a discipline, OB is still young in Europe and also here at the University of Lausanne. The first full professor was appointed in 2005. By now we have grown to six professors and we are bursting at the seams as the teaching demands on our department keep increasing. In 2007, we established the doctoral school that formalized our Ph.D. program including the line-up of Ph.D. courses. On the research side, we, jointly with other departments at HEC Lausanne, opened a laboratory and a participant pool.
Located near Lake Geneva and surrounded by the Jura Mountains and the French Alps, Lausanne is a beautiful and cosmopolitan spot to live and work. We have a collegial atmosphere that makes it easy for us to carry out our research and teaching. We benefit from the diversity of the expertise of the members of the department (we have Ph.D.s in business, management, psychology, and economics) as well as from the diversity of the departments at the Faculty of Business and Economics. Many international corporations have their headquarters in Lausanne or Geneva, and opportunities for partnering with colleagues at the neighbouring Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne and the International Institute for Management Development and others exist.
