Welcome of the Director
MESSAGE FROM THE PHD PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Welcome to the University of Lausanne and thanks for your interest in pursuing a PhD in management at our school. Our PhD program attracts students with a large variety of backgrounds. In addition to masters in management, our students have degrees in economics, psychology or sociology. Students also come from many countries, including Switzerland, France, Sweden, Mexico, Italy, Germany, India or Romania.
The PhD program in Management at the University of Lausanne seeks to develop in the doctoral student a high level of competence in conducting research. To accomplish these objectives, the program provides a rigorous and in-depth course of study emphasizing the latest theoretical knowledge, quantitative techniques, research methodology, and empirical evidence in the student's field of specialization.
The Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Lausanne is one of the leading research-oriented and fully-accredited business institutions in Europe. With about 60 full time faculty members and a long list of doctoral alumni, the expertise of our faculty, coupled with our excellent computer and library resources, provide opportunities for specialization matched by few others in Europe. In the University of Dallas rankings, which capture publications in top business journals, our school is being ranked 8th in Europe. Our objective is to make sure that we can keep up with these good records, and keep improving our research production in major outlets. Our PhD program has certainly an important role to play in that mission, and therefore constitutes a strategic program for our school.
Most of our entering classes receive graduate research or teaching assistantships, and pay low tuition fees. A majority of our doctoral students assist in faculty research/teaching in their area of interest, and many co-author articles for publication before graduation.
Regarding the placement out of our program, some of our alumni have been hired in excellent schools, such as the London Business School, Duke University, HEC Paris, IESE or the University of Zurich. Again, we are dedicated to keep this up and will do anything that is possible to lead our students towards good academic positions. Our program is therefore demanding and requires a high level of commitment. Within five years, the students have to complete their PhD.
If you have any question or would like to arrange a visit to our school, please feel free to contact us.
Do also not miss the welcome words of our PhD students' representatives which you can read here.
See you soon in Lausanne!
