Located at the heart of Europe, on the shore of Lake Geneva, "The Academy", the forerunner of the UNIL, was founded in 1537. In 1890, The Academy received the name and status of a UNIVERSITY and in 1979, the Business School of the University -known as HEC Lausanne- delivered its first MBA.

HEC Lausanne is known for its very strict admissions requirements. All participants without exception, have to be holder of a recognised university degree (Bachelor or Master) and have at least 5-7 years professional experience, including managerial experience. All candidates have to undergo a formal interview with the Admission's Committee prior to being accepted.
