Young Scholars Wanted: Call For Papers

Are you one of those young scholars who want to help promoting human rights in global business?

We are looking for the next generation of researchers, the leading voices of tomorrow! Are you a doctoral student in one of the relevant fields of research such as management, political studies, legal studies, geography, political philosophy, or any other human rights related field? If you want to make a contribution to business and human rights this is the perfect opportunity!

Your participation will provide you with unique access to some of the best thinkers in human rights issues of today and to top managers and CSR practitioners from multinational companies and nongovernmental organizations.

We expect you to deliver new insights and provoking ideas that might transcend the rigid borders of the established scientific division of disciplines.

Do you have answers to one or more of the following questions and dimensions on the business and human rights debate? We invite you to redefine the global debate on corporate responsibility!

  • Theoretical concepts of corporate responsibility for human rights
  • Human rights challenges in conflict zones
  • Human rights and private security firms
  • Analysis of recent human rights scandals in specific countries, industries, companies
  • Concepts of direct and indirect human rights violations (what are the dimensions of complicity)
  • Micro finance activities and their impact on human rights
  • Solutions for salient human rights issues (child labor, slave labor, forced labor, salaries and working conditions, etc.)
  • What are the future standards for the human rights policy of multinational corporations? How can they be developed and implemented?
  • Best Practice: What kind of engagement do multinational corporations show and what is their motivation?
  • Geopolitical analyses: Burma, China, Sudan, Irak etc. and acceptable business practices
  • What is the role of consumers and consumption in relation to human rights?
  • What is the link between environmental issues and human rights in a business context?
  • How do successful multistakeholder processes look like? What is the role of corporations, governments, NGOs in these processes?
  • The role of the UN (e.g. the Global Compact) on human rights issues?
  • Martial prosecution and the frame of the Universal Decalaration of Human Rights
  • What are the legal challenges in the global process of regulating and sanctioning human rights violations by corporations?
